About Us

SeniorsNL is a non-profit, charitable, voluntary organization administered by a Board of Directors.

We are dedicated to promoting the independence and well-being of older adults in Newfoundland and Labrador through the provision of information as well as various programs and services.SeniorsNL understands inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility are keys to health and well-being and a life well lived. SeniorsNL is dedicated to ensuring older adults and those that support them get the resources they deserve. We value treating everyone with dignity and respect. While we do not ask for self-identification to ensure diversity, be it a person calling us or a volunteer or staff, we listen, support, and hire without prejudice or judgment. Seniors are not a homogeneous group. We respect the wide diversity of those in later life, as well as those who support them. We believe and validate what they say, ensure participation, and that voices are heard to address unmet needs. We encourage engagement in shaping age-friendly communities that have to take into consideration different needs, abilities, cultures, and values. We do everything we can to ensure that we are as inclusive as possible in all areas of our work, including operations, whether that is providing services for older people, influencing policy, or as an employer.

We provide invaluable services throughout Newfoundland and Labrador. We rely heavily on the devotion of volunteers, the financial generosity of individuals and corporations, and funding from various levels of government. Without these partnerships, our unique service to seniors and those that support them would not be possible.

We offer information and referral services through a dedicated team of peer-support volunteers on our Information and Referral line and those volunteering in their communities. We also are very dedicated in bringing awareness of and action on elder abuse through our NL Network for the Prevention of Elder Abuse.

Our History

Did you know that we have been around since 1989! We have come a long way to becoming the only seniors’ organization that provides information and resources specific to the needs of older adults — and those who support them, including friends, family members, and service providers.

Have a look at our tremendous work over the years to promote senior engagement and independence through information. Thanks to Yvonne Jacobs, past staff person and now longtime volunteer for compiling this historical document. Please click here to view: SRCNL MILESTONES 1989-2011.
